Greetings Nostalgics! I'm going to get this party started by posting a clip from a movie I made around the age of 13. BROOM is about a kid who has a terrible day - his parents divorce and tell him they're sending him off to an orphanage. His best friend is not there to support and on top of that, he gets fired from his job of cleaning houses. The combination of all of this makes him go crazy and he embarks on a revenge killing spree. The comedic twist is that he kills people with CLEANING UTENCILS and MATERIALS - brooms, mops, vacuum cleaners, windex, etc. He even wears a waistpaper basket on his head in a nod to Jason's hockey mask from the Friday the 13th slasher flicks and Michael Myers from Halloween. BROOM was designed to be a parody of slasher movies from the 1980s, well before Wes Craven's SCREAM became a massively successful franchise.
Here is a clip from BROOM, with a young me playing the boy who would become the killer dubbed THE BROOM GUY and my Dad playing "Dick Wood," a grouchy neighbor who is just setting himself up for the Broom Guy's wrath!
I have lots more to share from fun amateur movies I made with my Dad and friends when I was a kid. Won't you share yours with us? Please join the GUM community here at growingupmovies.com - this is a place for everyone to share their childhood art and creation and we inspire each other to find our inner creativity again as adults! Stay tuned for more fun 👍
