Namaste Nostalgies! We are in India on our honeymoon, so Growing Up Movies is on a new videosode hiatus until early November. But, there is plenty of fun stuff to catch up on in the world of pop culture nostalgia and childlike creativity and two perfect examples are below. In this first YouTube short, I quickly introduce Super7's new set of detailed action figures from Stanley Kubrick's classic masterpiece, 2001 A Space Odyssey:

And here, I dig into the natural creative combination of pop culture entertainment and our the artistic instincts we all had as kids. In this case, it's all about Back To The Future!

Okay pop culture nostalgia freaks! This week, we dive into the more recent trend of movie mashup shirts - nostalgic paraphernalia representing classic movies we love, in a fresh way. Join me for a little quiz game - can you guess the movie the T-shirt it is based from?? These shirts are a great way to connect with the movies we loved growing up and they also make awesome conversation starters. Now, guess that flick!

Today at Growing Up Movies, we celebrate childlike creativity in the form of filmmaking. One unique creative outlet for kids is movie making. I started making movies at the age of 12 in the late 1980s with the primitive, yet awesome Fisher Price PXL 2000 video camera. In this week’s videosode, I revisit the first movie made with friends in 1989 and how we recently made a new adult-told story around that old kid-made movie. Lots of people out there made movies when we were kids. Some went on to be professional filmmakers, some not. But it’s the joy of movies and movie making, which connects folks from all walks of life. I would LOVE to hear your personal filmmaking stories, so if you have anything you’d like to share, please comment and subscribe to the YouTube channel. Lots more fun nostalgic and childlike creativity awesomeness to come!
