Happy Friday, Nostalgaholics! Comic book and movie character vinyl model kits were an artistic pop culture movement in the 1980s and 1990s. Molds designed by talented artists were mass produced into vinyl pieces and sold to collectors who would paint them, creating a unique creative experience between the artist + manufacturer, and the customer who became a second artist. In part 1 of this limited vinyl model kit videosode series, I examine 4 model kits of Terminators and Robocop, all made by the design company, Horizon Original. Happy New Year, Nostalgies! Today, Growing Up Movies is back for 2023 and we are talking CUSTOM ACTION FIGURES with artist Bryan Edward Castle, who has been building and designing action figures for years. This is a most fascinating artistic and childlike creative process that even Hasbro has espoused. Custom toys are homemade by collectors who take action figure fun into their own hands, generating representations of comic book and movie characters who never had big brand action figures made. And these days, we can all have fun-ass action figures made of ourselves as well! Bryan is one of the talented individuals out there embracing this adult creativity and being a force for good. Please check out the videosode interview on YouTube and we have A LOT of new fun nostalgic pop culture and childlike creative content coming your way this year including the release of our series “Growing Up Movies presents Assholes In Arbitration.” Stay tuned!
